Renaming Chicago’s Most Famous building? You’ve Got to Be Kidding Me!!!

Renaming Chicago’s Most Famous building? You’ve Got to Be Kidding Me!!!

So I have been sitting on this for quite some time now, because I haven’t found the proper way to express how I feel about the renaming of the most famous building in Chicago the Sears Tower will be renamed come this summer to the “Bullshit”…I mean “Willis” Tower. Now this is even more stupid than when they renamed Comiskey Park to US Cellular Field. I mean you don’t rename a fucking landmark!! Especially one that is so prominent to Chicago!!

As someone who is invested in Large Scale Buildings the Sears Tower is one of my favorite buildings it’s the one that I grew up visiting when I was a kid, it’s the one that I base a ton of my abstract building paintings off of, it’s the one I make mini replicas out of it is a part of me and by renaming it you are taking that away from not only me but from Chicago as a whole! People are pissed, people are boycotting this name and its evident with the many people that have signed the petition against it and yet they still insist on renaming it? The head guy of Willis was blabbing on about Sears not being in that building since 1992 and my reply to that would be so the fuck what? The Sears Tower has been that since it was created so many years ago, it is the heart of Downtown Chicago in the Heart of the City and to rename it would just be ludicrous!!

I’ll bet any money that Mayor Jackass (Daley) had everything to do with this Go figure that bastard would go a head and screw something else up. I wonder how much money the Willis Corporation paid him to do this. I mean honestly no one knows what the hell the Willis Corporation is! I have never heard of them, and neither have a lot of other Chicagoans!! Basically the city just got screwed over because I guarantee you for the time being they will lose a lot of money. Tourists will not realize that this is the most famous building in Chicago for a while and will cease to come, those who are pissed off at the name change will refuse to come, money will be lost for a while until people realize what has happened. I do know one thing is for sure. I will never set foot in the Willis Tower as long as it is named such and that’s a shame really because as I said before I grew up with the SEARS TOWER and losing the name takes away from the building itself because its like a whole new place and I don’t like change too often!

You know I am really disappointed in this really disappointed!

I’m out!

The AOL Saga continues……

The AOL Saga continues……

So I recently posted a rather amusing letter that I had written to AOL but never sent as it was too snarky but after my last fiasco with them I am considering reconsidering sending that letter!

So here’s a brief summary for you….

I, Filly, have AOL through which I have my e-mail address. I, Filly, have had said email address for over 10 years. One day, I, Filly discover that I cannot send mail to certain addresses. Then I proceed to discover that my mail bounces back after an extreme period of time. So I, Filly, contacted AOstupid…I mean AOL, and proceeded to be told, repeatedly, that it was my spam filters that was causing the problem. I, Filly, being somewhat computer savvy questioned “Bob” from India, the AOL tech support guy on this matter. I was told to restore my AOL software, this did not fix the problem, fed up with stupid antics and knowing full well that sending mail wouldn’t be impacted by MY spam filters I decided that I would try to figure it out all on my own….

I was not successful!

Which brings me to my most recent conversation with AOmoron….uhh…AOL. So three nights ago not only was I not able to send email I realized that I was not receiving it either! I discovered this when I did not receive my ELECTRIC BILL around the time that I usually get it. So, I called Com Ed and asked if there was a delay in processing and there wasn’t I was told that it had been sent over a week and a half ago. I then realized that my mail box was a bit on the quiet side and my mailbox is rarely ever on the quiet side. I contacted vender that I do some business with who I am in contact with on a daily basis and inquired on whether he sent me any emails. He sent me one each day and was wondering why he was not getting a response from me. He did not contact me via phone as he just assumed I was on vacation. So this prompted me to get really pissed off at the fact that I was not receiving my now, which in turn prompted another phone call to AOHELL!! (I’m not correcting myself this time)

So before I continue on and tell you what the conversation entailed lets review.

1. Not able to send mail
2. Mail bouncing back after an extended period of time
3. First call to AOL not successful
4. Not receiving new mail
5. Pissed off beyond belief

With me so far? Good! Let’s move on

After my little realization I immediately contacted AOL and bypassed the tech support people and asked for a supervisor. I was transferred to a man, in India named Joe. Joe, form India, proceeded to tell me that there are issues with the new software of AOL and the spam filters affect incoming mail. Patiently, I stated that I am not only having a problem with incoming mail but also outgoing mail and that the problem started with the old software and has gotten worse with the new version. I proceeded to discuss my prior conversation with Bob from India in which I ran down the list of things we had done. “Lets try them again,” Joe, from India says!!!! I, Filly, proceeded to slam my head repeatedly against the desk. I humored Joe, from India, and restored my AOL software, checked and tinkered with my spam filters, I even ran a virus scan and a adware scan, NOTHING!!! Not fixed, not fixed at all.

So as I was talking to Joe from India, I was surfing the internet and checking random message boards and was telling Joe from India that I am not the only one experiencing this problem. Joe from India proceeds to tell me that there is nothing we can do to help you blah, blah fucking blah, that it must be a result of my computer or problems with Windows Vista. This got a chuckle out of me as I am all for the when in doubt blame Vista scenario but this could not be the case. Since, I have this problems on all of my computers!!! I have 3 laptops at home and one at work, and NONE of them work!!!

So…Joe from India started fumbling over his words, not knowing what to say or how to say it, and soooooooo finally Joe, from India, mumbles out something along the lines of we will file your report and have our technicians look into it further.

So lets review one final time,,,

1. Not able to send mail
2. Mail bouncing back after an extended period of time
3. First call to AOL not successful
4. Not receiving new mail
5. Pissed off beyond belief
6. Second call to AOL not successful
7. Still not receiving new mail
8. Still not able to send mail
9. Even more pissed off

So now I have a new email address in which I have to change every thing that I have listed to that site and let me tell you its a lot, its worse than moving and changing addresses!! If you wish to contact me please contact me via fillyd83@hotmail.com I will not delete my other account in hopes that it might get fixed but for now this is the one I can be reached at.

Enjoy the rest of this lovely, absolutely gorgeous Tuesday!

Lyrics that speak to me

Motel, sittin' in the dark. Empty room like an empty heart. Lovers stop but they never stay, they don't look back as they drive away. Maybe I, should fix this brokin' neon light. Fill in the cracks and paint it bright, then maybe love will stop here tonight. ~ These Are The Days- O-Town.

Are the homeless really homeless?

I wanted to post this yesterday but I was deprived of internet access at work all day and when I got home, I was too damn tired to even contemplate writing this blog. But now I am at work and the internet has been restored and I’m gonna attempt to type this as I injured my finger last night and just wanted to warn you to pretend that the many typos I am about to make aren’t there!

Ok so Tuesday night we were in my fiction class and we were discussing honesty and homelessness and the fact that it is very hard to trust some people. So in order for you to understand what I am about to say you have to know a little bit about me. So I will tell you. For the past 6 years I have been a legal secretary and I frequently do some work downtown. You know file papers, deliver files and other boring things. In those 6 years I have come to know many of the downtown law firms and such and one day I was delivering something to an attorney after 9 pm. We were preparing for a major case. So I hopped on the El and was off to the city to deliver a stack of paperwork to prepare for this case. There is an attorney who is well respected who works for that firm. Not the attorney I was delivering the files to but some other guy. I got there at around 9ish and by the time I explained all the information and went through the paper work with this guy it was after 11. I wasn’t about to take the El that late to I was hailing a cab and in the process of doing this, I noticed the other attorney. He wasn’t in his well respected suit but in raggedy clothing and holding up some sort of sign. Now this guy makes money, is well respected and the likes and he was in the middle of a major downtown street, where I wont say the name for privacy, but this guy was on that street fucking PANHANDLING!!

Totally disturbed by this I called the police and he was arrested. Later on that year I saw him on the street again. Since then I have stopped delivering anything to the firm. I don’t know why this firm wont let this guy go I really don’t. I am completely disturbed by the entire situation. There must be something mentally wrong with this man to be doing this because he does have money, he drives a nice car, lives in a nice home and is a well respected attorney. I was very upset by this.

So after I told the story, I was telling the class how I was raised to be generous and to always help others no matter what. But after seeing that type of situation of a rich man pretending to be homeless to make money, just really put things into a whole new night. I mean how do you know what these people are going to do with that money? How do you know they are even homeless? I mean not that everyone is untrustworthy but after seeing that how can I take my hard earned money and give it to someone who may have more money than me? My professor was telling the story sounded far fetched and a kid in my class was telling her a story about a wealthy business man that drove a Mercedes by day and panhandled at night. So this prompted me to come home and do a bit of research and I found thousands upon thousands of stories involving the same type of situation.

It really surprised me to see such a thing. I cant say that every person you encounter is going to be a con artist but I can say to be careful of who you are giving money to and perhaps instead of giving money, donate your time to a local homeless shelter instead. Donate food to those shelters and clothing. There is still something that can be done even tho these fakes tend to be lurking around.
